The Ningbo International Circuit is the venue for the beginning of the final part of the WTCR season, as the FIA World Cup resumes after a ten-week summer break.
Esteban Guerrieri (Münnich Motorsport, Honda Civic FK7) is still leading the championship with 231 points, but after the Portuguese round he has seen his margin reduced to 24 points over Norbert Michelisz (BRC Squadra Corse, Hyundai i30 N). They are followed by Thed Björk (Cyan Racing, Lynk&Co 03), Guerrieri's teammate Néstor Girolami and Mikel Azcona (PWR Racing, CUPRA) with gaps of 50, 54 and 62 points respectively.
In 2018, the Hyundai cars dominated the Ningbo races with Björk taking two wins and his teammate Yvan Muller one. All eyes will be on them during the next weekend, considering that they have moved to Cyan Racing and represent Lynk&Co, one of China's premier car manufacturers that aims for winning the title on its maiden racing season.
“It’s going to be a big event for us and we hope as many people as possible from Lynk&Co in China will be watching us. It’s going to be a nice weekend, the expectation is high and you want to do a good race for this reason,” Björk commented.
The national colours will be also flown by Ma Qing Hua (Mulsanne Racing, Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce) who is eager to add a home victory to the one he scored at Slovakiaring earlier this year. "I will try to enjoy, to fight and focus on pure racing, without thinking too much about the pressure of racing in my home event," he said.
