WTCR promoter Eurosport Events announced that the Portuguese event will be moved from Vila Real to Estoril, though it will retain the same date of June 26/27.
This change comes in response to the Portugal’s government restrictions concerning mass gatherings at single locations that are due to remain in place until August. These restrictions, the result of the COVID-19 pandemic, have made staging the event on the street circuit not possible in 2021, because spectator numbers cannot be controlled due to the track’s compact urban setting.
However, Eurosport Events announced a new three-year agreement for Vila Real to host the WTCR event from 2022.
