Pepe Oriola and John Filippi will take part in the WTCR with two Cupra TCR cars run by Campos Racing.
Despite his young age, Oriola is a veteran of both Touring Car and TCR competition. In 2013 – at the age of 18 – he became the youngest winner ever of an FIA World Championship race (in WTCC at Marrakech); he then switched to the TCR International Series, scoring eight victories over three seasons and finishing as vice champion in 2015. “I’m very happy to confirm my participation with a 100% Spanish team. We have known each other for many years and I’m going to make the most of the opportunity Cupra has given me. They’ve always been by my side and have trusted me from the beginnings of my career, so I will try to reward them on the track,” said Oriola.
After four seasons in WTCC, Filippi is now facing his first full year in a TCR car. In 2017 the 23-year old from Corsica drove an Audi RS3 LMS in three rounds of the 24H TCE Series. “I’m really happy to sign up again with Campos Racing, as they know how to put together a credible project for the future. This opportunity is probably one of the biggest challenges and the logical continuation of my career,”Filippi commented.
