Touring Car legend Fabrizio Giovanardi is the latest addition to the already impressive field that will take part in the new WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup.
The Italian driver will be at the wheel of a Romeo Ferraris-built Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR run by Team Mulsanne.
A former multi-champion in the FIA European Touring Car Championship (2001/2002), the British Touring Car Championship (2007/2008), the Italian Supertouring Championship (1998/1999), the Spanish Supertouring Championship (1997) and the FIA European Touring Car Cup (2012), Giovanardi returns to drive an Alfa Romeo after having been factory driver for the Italian brand between 1995 and 2005.
Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager commented: “Having Fabrizio with us is a crucial element of our programme. Racing at the highest level in 2018 represents a big step forward for our organisation and Team Mulsanne. We have worked to develop the Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris and the positive feedback received from Fabrizio after the test in Monza has made possible to make this dream come true.”
Giovanardi said: “I wish to thank everybody at Romeo Ferraris for making possible to reach an agreement for the 2018 season. I was very impressed by the car when I tested it in Monza. For me, it is a comeback on the world stage after a few years out of racing, but my passion and greed for victory are intact!”
