Austrian driver Felix Wimmer claimed his maiden victory in TCR Italy as he led throughout the whole second race at Mugello.
Wimmer took the lead in the early stages beating Eric Scalvini and Matteo Greco who had started from the front row of the grid. For the remaining 14 laps, Marco Pellegrini chased Wimmer, but never got close enough to try an overtaking manoeuvre. Salvatore Tavano cruised in third place and so retained the leadership in the standings, although he's now equal on point with Pellegrini.
Behind the three leaders, Greco defended his fourth position from the assaults of Enrico Bettera and Klim Gavrilov. However, both Audi drivers went off the track due to flat front tyres, Bettera on lap 8 and Gavrilov on the final lap. The third Audi driver, Jacopo Guidetti, fell the victim of the same fate as he went off during the penultimate lap.
With the three Audi cars out of the race, Scalvini was promoted to fifth and encored his Race 1 success in the DSG Cup.
The TCR Italy will resume at Imola on August 30th / September 1st.
