Will Brown took victory in Race 2 at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia, beating Race 1 winner Garth Tander and James Moffat.
Following his win the previous day, Tander started from pole but was beaten to Turn 1 by Brown, while Brown’s teammate Nathan Morcom had a poor start from fourth on the grid and dropped three places. Tander was passed by John Martin for second place, while Jimmy Vernon snatched ninth place from Russell Ingall on Lap 2.
On Lap 3, Chris Pither passed Tander for third place, but the Volkswagen Golf of Alexandra Whitley stopped on track after a coolant warning level light came on and the safety car was deployed while the car was recovered.
Racing resumed on Lap 5 and Pither’s Renault soon passed Martin for second place, with Tander’s Audi also passing the Honda for third on the following lap. The safety car was then called into action for a second time after Vernon’s Alfa Romeo ran wide and made contact with Alex Rullo’s Holden Astra while the pair were fighting for eighth place.
The restart on Lap 9 was quickly followed by Martin losing another position when Moffat passed him for fourth place, while Pither locked up under braking at the start of the following lap and made contact with the pit wall, damaging the front of the Renault. The incident elevated Tander to second place and Moffat to third and that’s how things remained until the chequered flag.
Behind the podium positions, Martin finished fourth ahead of his teammate Jordan Cox, with Ingall in sixth place and Morcom seventh. The top ten was rounded off by Leanne Tander, Tony D’Alberto and Dylan O’Keefe.
After a thirty-minute break, Race 3 rounds off the TCR Australia weekend at The Bend with Brown on pole and Tander alongside him on the front row. Live streaming at www.tcr-series.com and www. tcr-series.tv.
