22 thousandths of a second was Andreas Wernersson’s winning margin over Robert Dahlgren in the TCR Scandinavia’s first race at Skellefteå. A victory that also propelled Wernersson to the first place in the standings, four points clear of Dahlgren.
At the start, Wernersson took the lead from the pole, followed by Dahlgren, Andreas Ahlberg, Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, Tobias Brink and Hannes Morin who had made a poor start from fourth on the grid. During the first lap Morin made a mistake, hit a wall and retired.
From the fifth lap onwards, Dahlgren began to put the pressure on Wernersson and eventually stole the lead from him at the beginning of the final lap. Wernersson answered and retook the first place at the hairpin, but that was not the end. The two rivals negotiated abreast the final turn and crossed the finishing line together with Wernersson’s Audi only 22 thousandths of a second ahead of Dahlgren’s CUPRA.
Ahlberg completed the podium after keeping at bay Åhlin-Kottulinsky and Brink, while Mattias Andersson was classified sixth, a new engine powering his Honda Civic after the failure that had sidelined him in yesterday’s Qualifying.
Race 2 will start at 20:05 (CET) with Morin and Ahlberg filling the front row of the top-eight reverse grid; live streaming at www.tcr-series.tv.
