Victor González masters the rain at Road America
Victor González mastered the Road America flooded racetrack better than his competitors and claimed his second victory of the season in TC America.
The TCR points leader Michael Hurczyn made a mistake while in the lead and managed to recover to finish second, further stretching his leadership in the standings over his teammate Nate Vincent.
Hurczyn’s margin went up to 40 points when 50 are still on offer in the series finale, at Las Vegas on October 18th/20th.
The start was delayed due the pouring rain. Finally, after a few laps behind the safety car, Hurczyn took the lead from the pole position ahead of González, Vincent, James Walker and Michael McCann. The latter went off during the opening lap and rejoined at the back of the TCA class field.
Three laps later it was Hurczyn who skidded off the road, made a long detour around the gravel trap and eventually rejoined in fourth position. González inherited the lead and pushed to increase his leading margin.
Hurczyn overtook Walker for P3 on lap 4 and then Vincent for P2 on lap 7. He spent the rest of the 40-minute race closing the gap to González, but couldn’t get close enough to threaten him.
In the TCR Cup for the DSG cars, Christian Cole led from the start, closely followed by the points leader Bryan Putt. They were in a close fight for several laps, mingling with the fastest cars of the TCA class. Eventually Putt took the advantage and pulled away.
