Local hero Santiago Urrutia plays the guest star in the third event of TCR South America that takes place at Rivera's Autódromo Eduardo P. Cabrera. This will be the series' first of two visits to Uruguay and will be followed by an event at El Pinar's Autódromo Víctor Borrat Fabini, on October 2/3.
Urrutia, WTCR race winner and title contender, will drive a Lynk & Co 03 run by PMO Motorsport. On their first outing in the championship, the Argentine team will run two Chinese cars, with the second driven by Team Principal Pablo Otero.
Five other Uruguayans will join the field for their home event. Gonzalo Reilly and Cyro Fontes in the Squadra Martino Honda Civic Type R cars, former Superturismos national champions Fabricio Larratea and Rodrigo Aramendia will drive a PropCar Racing Alfa Romeo Giulietta and a Scuderia CJ Hyundai Elantra N respectively, while Enrique Maglione will team up with Aramendia in the second Elantra.
Another newcomer is Peru's Rodrigo Pflucker - runner-up in the 2015 South American Formula 4 and winner of the 2019 LMP3 title in the IMSA Prototype Challenge - who will be driving a Hyundai i30 N run by the Perú Racing Team.
After the first two events, Pepe Oriola (W2 Racing Honda Civic) leads the standings on 75 points; he is followed by Rodrigo Baptista (Cobra Racing Audi RS 3 LMS) and his own W2 teammate Rafael Reis who are seven and 15 points behind respectively.
Oriola won both races in the season opener at Interlagos, while Baptista was victorious - with co-driver Tom Coronel - in Curitiba's endurance race.
