Tyler Maxson drove his Hyundai Veloster N to a sixth consecutive victory in TC America, as he dominated a slim four-car field in Sonoma’s Race 1.
Victor González sat on pole after he had beaten Maxson and Roy Block by 83 thousandths and one tenth respectively; Maxson was then demoted to fourth on the grid because of a technical infringement.
Despite this, it only took a couple of laps to Maxson for jumping into the lead. He passed CJ Moses at the start, then Block in lap 1 and finally González in lap 2.
The Copeland Motorsport’s youngster soon built a four-second margin and was never challenged for the victory. Behind him, González defended the second position from a charging Block, but halfway through the race, the Puerto Rican was able to shake the Argentine off.
And so they finished with Maxson taking the flag less than three seconds ahead of González, Block a distant third and Moses the last of the TCR class in fourth.
Race 2 is scheduled for 11:30 Pacific Time (20:30 CEST) on Saturday; live streaming at www.tcr-series.com.
