Eight victories in eight races it’s an impressive score for 16-year old rookie Tyler Maxson in the TCR class of the TC America series. Maxson and his Copeland Motorsport Hyundai Veloster N have given no respite to their competitors from the very beginning of the season.
Today, at Sonoma International Raceway, Maxson claimed his third win in three days.
He sprinted from the pole position to lead into Turn 1 ahead of Roy Block’s Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Maxson’s pace enabled him to pull away from the rest of the field, building a gap of four seconds after six laps that was consistently increased up to seven by the end of the race.
Behind him Block repeated his defense of the second position from the attacks of Victor González’s Honda Civic, just like in yesterday’s Race 2. The Argentine and the Puerto Rican ran together for all of the 40-minute race, with the Honda biting on the Alfa’s tail; the gap between them fluctuated from two to six tenths.
Unlike in Race 2, when the Alfa Romeo was slowed by a technical issue in the late stages, this time Block was able to defend the second position until the end, beating González by six tenths at the end of a thrilling final lap.
The next event of TC America will be on 28/30 August at Road America.
