Four months after dominating the opening event of TC America at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas, Tyler Maxson resumed in style after the lockdown and claimed his maiden pole position in the championship.
Maxson and his Copeland Motorsports Hyundai Veloster N needed only two flying laps to post the time of 1:56.881 that no was not to be beaten. After that, the 15-year old driver pitted for new tyres, completed one more lap and then sat in the pits for the remaining of the 15-minute session.
Victor González heaved himself up to the second place with a lap of 1:57.184, that was three tenths slower than Maxson’s best effort. Two other Honda Civic cars qualified in third and fourth positions, with Scott Smithson who was able to clock a lap of 1:57.842 towards the end of the session, which demoted his own teammate CJ Moses to fourth.
Series newcomer Tristan Herbert rounded out the top five in his Audi DSG, beating Roy Block’s Alfa Romeo Giulietta by four thousandths of a second.
Race 1 will start this afternoon at 13:50 local time (19:50 CEST); live streaming will be available at www.tcr-series.com.
