On the eve of TCR Italy's season finale at Mugello, the Tribunal upheld Nicola Baldan's appeal against the penalty he was given in the latest race at Imola.
The former Italian champion had finished second behind Kevin Ceccon, but a 5-second penalty for track limit infringements had demoted him to seventh.
Having been reinstated in second place, Baldan (Target Competition, Hyundai i30 N) has taken the leadership in the standings, 12 points clear of Salvatore Tavano (Scuderia del Girasole, CUPRA Leon Competición).
With 90 points available over the weekend, a five-way battle for the title is expected at Mugello this weekend.
Baldan's teammate, the 2020 TCR Germany champion Antti Buri lies in third position with a gap of 21 points; the Finn has scored only one point more than Ceccon (Aggressive Team Italia, Hyundai i30 N), while Eric Brigliadori (BF Motorsport, Hyundai i30 N) follows in fifth positions, 44 points off the leader.
The two races will be streamed live Sunday at www.tcr-series.com; Race 1 at 10:20 and Race 2 at 16:40 (CEST).
