After setting pole position and scoring a comfortable win in Race 1, Tomáš Pekař completed a perfect weekend at the Hungaroring, as he won the second TCR Eastern Europe race.
Polish driver Łukasz Stolarczyk finished second, claiming his first podium result in the series, while Michal Makeš completed the podium.
For the first time the reverse grid for Race 2 was determined by a draw between 6 and 10; Carol Wittke – ninth in Race 1 – had the pole with Pekař starting from P9.
At the start, Sebastian Steibel was quickest from P3, but Stolarczyk passed him for the lead into Turn 2; Wittke was third, chased by Pekař and Makeš.
Pekař passed Wittke for P2 during the second lap, and Makeš imitated him in lap 4, moving into third despite Wittke’s efforts to defend the position. Moments later Pekař stole the lead from Stolarczyk.
After a poor start that had dropped him to ninth, Milovan Vesnić was recovering and chasing Giacomo Ghermandi for P5. During the fifth lap, Stolarczyk was trying to hold on to the second place as he was closely followed by Makeš and Wittke who came together and lost contact from the Pole.
The Ghermandi-Vesnić duel heated up as their two cars ran side-by-side, with the Italian capable of closing the door in every turn.
Just like in Race 1, Pekař benefited from the battles behind him to open a gap; in lap 9, Vesnić finally passed Ghermandi for P5 and began to close in on Steibel. At the beginning of lap 12, Vesnić overtook Steibel for P4 into Turn 1.
Pekař took the chequered flag with a nine-second margin ahead of Stolarczyk who was able to keep Makeš at bay; Vesnić finished fourth from Steibel, Ghermandi and Wittke.
The second event of the championship will be at the Slovakia Ring on May 8/9.
