As the start of the 2022 TCR UK series draws closer, three more drivers have been confirmed ahead of the test and media day on March 28th.
Rob Butler will drive a JW Bird Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI, Chris Wallis returns with the Power Maxed Racing Hyundai i30 N he raced last year, and Alex Ley will tackle several rounds in a Hyundai i30 N run by the Daniel James Motorsport team.
Butler makes the step up to TCR UK after claiming three race victories in last year’s Milltek Sport Civic Cup series. Having worked with PMR for the last three years, Wallis joins previously announced teammate Russell Joyce in the squad’s line-up.
The sixteen-year-old Ley will be the youngest driver on the grid when he lines up for the Donington Park and Snetterton rounds in readiness for a full-season campaign in 2023. His car is an ex-Target Competition Hyundai used in last season’s TCR Italy.
Butler said: “It’s going to be a steep learning curve, but with JW Bird Motorsport running multiple entries, I’m hoping the experience and knowledge the team has to offer will help me make further gains in performance as the season progresses.”
Wallis stated: “A big accident halfway through the season forced me to change my plans last year and I reset my sights on a full season programme for 2022. The team’s professionalism and ability cannot be questioned, and I have no doubt they will provide me with a car capable of delivering good results.”
Ley added: “Having enjoyed success in karting and then racing in the Fiesta Cup, I feel the next step for me is in TCR UK, especially at a time when the series is clearly growing, attracting stronger grids and talented drivers.”
