Eric Brigliadori was stripped of the TCR Italy’s title he had won on the track by arbitration and Salvatore Tavano inherited the champion’s crown for the third consecutive year.
Yesterday, the Sporting Tribunal heard the appeal lodged by Felice Jelmini against his exclusion from the first race at Misano in August. Jelmini had won that race, but his Hyundai was declared not conform after the post-race scrutineering because it was not possible to download the data from the Hyundai’s ECU; Brigliadori inherited the victory, while Tavano was promoted to second.
The tribunal overturned that decision, ruling that PMA Motorsport was not responsible for the malfunctioning of the data logger and therefore reinstated Jelmini as the winner of the race.
This demoted Brigliadori and Tavano to second and third; as a consequence, Brigliadori lost six points and Tavano two. Because they had finished the season on equal points, Tavano moved ahead of Brigliadori in the standings by four points.
Championship points - revised
1. Salvatore Tavano 164 pts; 2. Eric Brigliadori 160; 3. Felice Jelmini 154
