The Japanese Super Taikyu championship kicked off at Fuji Speedway with the traditional 24-hour race that was mostly run under pouring rain. The weather forced the competition to be suspended for nearly four hours, while the safety car was deployed ten times and circulated for a total of three hours.
The Audi RS 3 LMS entered by Waimarama Kizuna Racing Team took the lead of the TCR class after the first stint and kept it until the end with Katsumasa Chiyo, 'Kizuna', Riki Okusa, Hironobu Yasuda, Toshihiro Yoshida and Naoya Yamano who shared driving duties.
For the whole race, the Audi was closely followed by the Floral Racing with Uematsu Honda Civic Type R driven by Tadao Uematsu, Yuji Ide, Shintaro Kawabata and Tomoki Nojiri that finished two laps behind. The second Audi run by Team Mars completed the podium, while the Dome Racing Honda Civic was plagued by electrical problems and finished a distant fourth.
The next round of will be a 3-hour race at Sugo Sportsland on October 10/11.
