The TCR Europe series will visit Jarama for the final event of the season that Saturday will crown the 2020 European champion who will succeed Mikel Azcona and Josh Files who secured the title in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
The event marks the first time the famous circuit nearby Madrid receives an international touring car series since the 2002 FIA European Touring Car Championship.
Mike Halder (Profi Car Team Halder, Honda Civic Type R) defends his leadership with a margin of 26 points over Mehdi Bennani (Comtoyou Racing, Audi RS 3 LMS).
With 90 points on offer, at least three other drivers must be considered serious contenders in the title fight: John Filippi (Target Competition, Hyundai i30 N), Nicolas Baert (Comtoyou Racing, Audi RS 3 LMS) and Daniel Lloyd (Brutal Fish Racing, Honda Civic Type R) who have gaps of 35, 41 and 48 points respectively. Lloyd will have to face the additional challenge of a drop of three positions on the grid of Race 1.
Still at stake are also the Teams' title in which Comtoyou Racing leads by 94 points over Target Competition and the Yokohama Trophies; Comtoyou's teammates Nicolas Baert and Sami Taoufik are split by sevent points in competing for the overall classification and the Rookie trophy, while Stéphane Ventaja (Team Clairet Sport, Peugeot 308) has built a 49-point lead over Martin Ryba (Brutal Fish Racing, Honda Civic Type R) in the Diamond trophy.
At Jarama, Mikel Azcona (Volcano Motorsport, CUPRA) and Tom Coronel (Boutsen Ginion Racing, Honda Civic Type R) return to the championship with the aim of resuming where they have left in the previous weekend at Spa, when they finished first and second in both races.
Saturday’s races will be streamed live at www.tcr-series.com: Race 1 at 11:20, Race 2 at 12:15 (CET).
