The first race of TCR Asia and TCR China at Zhuhai ended behind the safety car after Douglas Khoo’s CUPRA had gone off.
Luca Engstler claimed his second victory of the season as he led from the start to the end and re-took the leadership in the standings two points clear of his teammate Diego Moran. Engstler was followed by Pepe Oriola in second position, while Daniel Lloyd and Filipe Souza were classified third and fourth and topped the TCR China classification.
Engstler took the lead at the start from pole position ahead of Moran; during the fist lap, both Lloyd and Oriola overtook the Ecuadorian who, later on, would progressively drop with brake issues to finish seventh.
Engstler built a leading gap of a few seconds, while midway through the race, Oriola passed Lloyd for second. Behind them Souza, Alex Hui and Martin Xie were all able to pass Moran. Hui and Xie completed the podiums of TCR Asia and TCR China respectively.
Race 2 will start tomorrow at 11:35 local time (05:35 CET) with Kenneth Look and Roland Hertner filling the front row of the top-ten reverse grid; live streaming at www.tcr-series.tv.
