The TCR Spa 500 race has reached the 100-lap mark in less than five hours. The Red Camel-Jordans.nl CUPRA had moved into the lead on lap 14, when Pepe Oriola was at the wheel, he was then replaced by Tom Coronel, Rik Breukers and Ivo Breukers who all managed to retain the first place so far.
They are now chased by Mikel Azcona in the TOPCAR Sport CUPRA, who is one lap behind, while there is a close fight for third place between Jonas Holmgaard (Holmgaard Motorsport, VW Golf), Mathieu Detry (AC Motorsport, Audi) and Teddy Clairet (DG Sport Compétition, Peugeot).
The first part of the race was more about sprint, with Oriola, Rory Pettinen (GDL Australia, Audi), Aurélien Comte (DG Sport, Peugeot), Charles Espenlaub (Vmax Engineering, Opel) and Vincent Radermecker (AC Motorsport, Audi) running nose to tail in the top five places.
Competition was neutralized a first time after 70 minutes, when Harry Hilders crashed at the Raidillon destroying the NKPP Racing CUPRA that Jaap van Lagen had placed on pole position. Hilders was sent to the hospital for medical checks, but came back with only a stiff neck.
Another incident, far less destructive, occurred after three hours when the Audi cars of Eric Kwong (Bas Koeten Racing) and Chris Allen (Ferda Motorsport) made contact; both rejoined after repairs. Kelvin Wong was not so happy when he crashed his Macau PS Racing Audi at Stavelot a few minutes after the four-hour mark. His car extensively damaged was trucked back to the pits where the team is trying to repair it.
The end of the 500-lap race is due tomorrow at 15:00 local time (CET); live streaming will continue at www.tcr-series.com and www.tcr-series.tv.
