Profi Car Team Honda’s Dominik and Marcel Fugel finished 1-2 in TCR Germany’s first race at the Sachsenring, a result that helped Dominik to stretch his leadership in the standings to 15 points over Antti Buri, while Harald Proczyk lies third, one further point adrift.
At the start, René Kircher was faster than pole sitter Jan Seyffert, but he went wide in Turn 3 and dropped to third behind Seyffert and Dominik Fugel. Kircher lost two more positions in lap 1, as he was passed by both Marcel Fugel and Buri, then on lap 3 he made another mistake and dropped to eighth, while Proczyk moved into P5 after starting from the back of the grid following an engine change.
In lap 7, Dominik Fugel passed Seyffert to take the lead and the latter found himself defending P2 from the charging Marcel Fugel. However, in lap 11, Marcel Fugel had to focus on defending his own third position from Buri. Fugel rejected the Finn’s first attempt, but lost contact from Seyffert.
Dominik Fugel built a comfortable lead and took the chequered flag with a 12-second advantage. Behind him, the fight for P2 became red hot, with Seyffert, Marcel Fugel and Buri entering abreast into the final lap. Eventually, both Marcel Fugel and Buri passed Seyffert whose pace suddenly faded at the point that he also lost P4 to Proczyk.
