Azcona and Vernay will race in the WTCR as well, with the Frenchman defending his lead in the standings. Vernay won the second race with his Team Engstler Hyundai Elantra N in the season opener at the Nürburgring and then finished second in Estoril's Race 2 behind Attila Tassi's Münnich Motorsport Honda Civic. The victory propelled the Hungarian youngster to second in the classification, five points behind the leader. On equal points with Tassi are Lynk & Co colleagues Yvan Muller and Santiago Urrutia, while Tassi's teammates Tiago Monteiro and Esteban Guerrieri are placed fifth and sixth four further points adrift. The reigning champion Yann Ehrlacher drove his Lynk & Co 03 to his maiden win of the season in the first race at Estoril and moved up to seventh in the standings, 12 points behind Vernay.
Local heroes Azcona and Jordi Gené - both at the wheel of CUPRA Leon Competición cars - are looking at theirs and the manufacturer's home event to make up from the misfortunes they had to face in Germany and Portugal.
As usual, the format of the two-day event includes two Free Practice sessions and the Qualifying on Saturday, with the two races on Sunday, the first one over 10 laps and the second over 12 laps.
