After a long break due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation in Asia, the 2021Season will get underway this coming weekend in China.
Travel restrictions have created a unique situation which will see the 2021 season commence with the TCR Asia-North Asia Cup being run over three events in China.
The opening two Rounds will be held this coming weekend at the Shanghai International Circuit; the other two events will be at Zhuhzhou International Circuit in June, and Jiangsu Wan Track in August.
The Series will run alongside the TCR China Championship continuing a cooperation which has been successful in the past few seasons.
Following the Jiangsu event, TCR Asia Series will be run over a further three or four events starting in September and incorporating a visit to the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. The dates and venues for these events will be announced in due course as the situation with travel restrictions and the ongoing Covid-19 situation in Asia develops.
“Due to the ongoing situation here in Asia especially with regards to cross border travel, we are having to be as creative and flexible as possible to put together our calendar for the season. We are encouraged by the enthusiasm and demand from the manufacturers, teams and competitors for TCR Asia to take place this year and so we are trying to build our plans around this demand. Due to this, we felt that it was extremely important to get underway as soon as possible.” said WSA Asia CEO, David Sonenscher.
