Front-running Chinese squad Teamwork Motorsport will compete in the new TCR Korea series, one of the latest of the various TCR-based series to appear across the globe.
The team confirmed its plans to contest the full three-event season, running alongside its already announced programme in TCR China.
Teamwork plans to enter two cars, either the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, or the Audi RS3 LMS. With four months to the start of the season, the team have announced early to get the programme fully in place with its technical and engineering staff, and find the most appropriate drivers for its seats.
"Korea is an up-and-coming motorsport market in Asia, and we would like to stamp our names in the brand new TCR Korea series, just as we did in TCR Asia in 2016 and TCR China last year," said team principal Paul Hui. "Teamwork already have experience of Korean circuits when we ran our TCSA and CTCC programmes, and together with our extensive experience with the TCR formula, we expect to be very strong contenders in this brand-new series."
The promoter of TCR Korea, Hongsik Jeon, said: "We are very happy to announce that one of the most successful racing teams in Asia, Teamwork Motorsport is joining us in TCR Korea. It is the first non-Korean team to confirm the full season of TCR Korea, and there are a couple of more teams talking with us to join the inaugural season. This shows the potential of TCR Korea. As the promoter, we welcome the teams from overseas as well as the home teams to compete together, and we are very glad to be the bridge of Korean motorsport and international racing."
