Scottish-based DPE Motorsport has announced that it will enter two Romeo Ferraris-built Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR cars in the 2018 TCR UK championship. The team has secured the services of Aiden Moffat to lead its bid for the TCR UK title, while Derek Palmer Jr will drive the second car. It’s also hoped that a third Giulietta can be added to the operation during the year.
21-year old Moffat is no stranger to UK Touring Car fans, having become the BTCC’s youngest-ever driver at the age of 16, scoring his first podium finish at Knockhill in 2015 and then winning his first BTCC race at Donington Park in 2017, repeating that result at Brands Hatch later in the season.
31-year old Palmer Jr has competed in Dutch Supercars, FIA European GT and British GT before joining the BTCC in 2015. In 2017, Palmer competed in the HSCC Super Touring Car Trophy and picked up two wins in a Nissan Primera.
Team Manager, Derek Palmer Sr, has extensive experience of national and international motorsport at all levels including F1. He commented: “Any petrolhead loves Alfa Romeos and it fulfills a personal ambition of mine to run two of these fantastic cars with two brilliant young drivers in the British arm of the world’s top Touring Car series.”
Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager Michela Cerruti added: “We are happy to start a collaboration with DPE Motorsport. Since we made the first tests in the UK at the end of last year, we have found a lot of interest and passion towards the Alfa Romeo brand and our Giulietta TCR. We will support the team and the drivers as much as we can in order to achieve great results.”
