The first collective test day in view of TCR Spain’s inaugural season took place today at the Circuito de Navarra, where the new series will kick off on 29th / 30th May. The test was attended by most of the Spanish teams that have already confirmed their participation, plus other interested drivers set.
Antonio Rodríguez, Category Manager TCR Spain, said: “It was necessary to give this opportunity to our customers as it’s been a long time since they have hit a racetrack. Track conditions are expected to be quite the same next week, which makes their presence a big advantage compared to the teams that have missed this test.”
Fernando Navarrete, SMC Junior Motorsport, said: “This test has been capital to us. Every lap I felt more confident in the TCR car, and our racing lines were very good. We have completed our main goals and I can’t wait to start the competition next week!”.
Alejandro Cutillas, SMC Junior Motorsport, said: “This is my first time with a TCR and although the timed laps were not essential today, I was faster than expected! I did not know the tyres either. I can now confirm I will be alongside Fernando Navarrete in SMC this season! He has a great experience, and I will learn a lot!”
Alba Cano, Monlau Competición said: “The CUPRA Leon Competición is a new car to me, as I’m not used to the sequential gearbox. The feeling with the car was great, it came immediately! We’re now set to consider very seriously our entry in the full season!”
