After setting pole positions for all today’s sprint races, Johan Kristoffersson proved to be in a league of his own at Alastaro. The Swede made a clean sweep, claiming three lights to flag victories and inflicting big gaps to the rest of the field.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI cars run by Johan’s father’s Kristoffersson Motorsport conquered five podium positions out of six, with Fredrik Blomstedt finishing second in Races 1 and 3, while Fredrik Ekblom was classified second in Race 2 and third in the other two races. Only the PWR Racing SEAT León of Robert Dahlgren disrupted their monopoly with a third in Race 2.
Ekblom took the lead in the standings with 111 points, five more than Dahlgren; Kristoffersson squeezed in third position with 78, while Blomstedt moved up to fourth (69).
In the first race, as Kristoffersson was pulling away there was a tough fight for second between Dahlgren, Wärnelöv, Haglöf, Blomstedt and Ekblom. On lap 4 Blomstedt and Haglöf came together and the latter dropped to eighth. Two laps later Dahlgren made a mistake and dropped from third to fifth. Eventually Blomstedt finished second from Ekblom and Dahlgren.
Ekblom tried to beat Kristoffersson at the start of Race 2, but in a couple of turns the pole sitter took the lead on his way to his second win of the day. Ekblom defended his position from a bunch of pursuers: Haglöf, Blomstedt, Dahlgren and Brink.
On lap 7, Brink made a mistake and lost contact, soon afterwards it was Blomstedt who ran wide and eventually stopped on the track. On the last lap Dalghren overtook Haglöf for third and finished behind Kristoffersson and Ekblom; Buri passed Lappalainen for fifth.
The third race was mostly processional. At the start Haglöf stalled from second on the grid; the trio of Kristoffersson, Blomstedt and Ekblom locked the first three places and pulled away, split by gaps of several seconds from each other. Mattias Anderson comfortably settled in fourth, while the only thrills came from the fight for fifth between Dahlgren, Lappalainen, Strandberg and Buri.
The next event of the STCC Scandinavia will take place at Solvalla, Sweden, on June 17.
