The title of the inaugural TCR New Zealand championship will be awarded Saturday in a winner-takes-all one-round at Cromwell's Highlands Motorsport Park.
On top of this the champion will be awarded a free entry in any of the remaining TCR Australia events.
Eight drivers will take part in the three 30-minute races, forming a perfect mix of 'young guns' and experienced racers.
The 'old guard' is represented by multiple Bathurst 1000 winner Greg Murphy, two-times FIA World Touring Car Cup winner Paul Radisich, multiple Porsche Carrera Cup champion Chris van der Drift and ex-World Rally Championship driver Hayden Paddon.
They face a bunch of undeterred youngsters such a Jordan Michels who has already won Class B titles in both the South Island and New Zealand Endurance series in his Honda Civic TCR.
Lochlainn Fitzgerald-Symes and Gene Rollinson have also grown considerable experience in TCR cars, having raced in the national endurance championship during the past seasons.
New to the category is the 19-year-old former national karting champion Jaden Ransley who faces his first appearance in a front-wheel-driven car.
The 30-minute Qualifying session will take place on Friday, and the three races will start Saturday at 9:00, 11:40 and 15:10 local times.
