TCR Korea newcomers Noh Dong Gi and Jung Nam Su set surprise pole positions for the series’ rounds 3 and 4 that take place tomorrow at Inje Speedium.
Noh Dong Gi, the youngest driver in the field, topped the Qualifying for Race 1 at the wheel of his E-Rain Motorsport Hyundai i30 N with a lap of 1:45.093; the first part of the session delivered a close battle with the four fastest drivers covered by just two tenths. Noh’s teammate Andrew Kim was second in his Volkswagen Golf GTI (1:45.194), followed by Jung Nam Su’s Brand New Racing Golf GTI (1:45.206) and Cho Hoon Yun (1:45.307) in the first Indigo Racing Hyundai. The team’s second car, driven by the current points leader Charlie Kang Byung Hui, posted a time of 1:45.243 that would have placed it in fourth position, but that lap was disallowed for a track limit infringement and Kang dropped to fifth (1:46.806).
In the Qualifying for Race 2, Noh Dong Gi was unable to repeat his effort and qualified fifth (1:47.624), while Jung (1:45.242) topped the list despite he too had his best lap (1:45.159) disallowed. Kim took second (1:45.636) ahead of Cho (1:45.731) and Kang (1:46.710).
The Qualifying points were awarded by adding the fastest laps set by the drivers in each session, which promoted Kim as the new championship leader, two points ahead of Kang.
Race 1 will start at 10:00 local time on Sunday (03:00 CET).
