An impressive field of 42 TCR cars is heading to Monza for the opening event of the TCR Italy championship and the new TCR DSG Endurance series.
Among the 17 drivers who will compete in TCR Italy’s sprint races is the reigning champion Salvatore Tavano who is willing to retain the title at the wheel of his CUPRA run by Scuderia del Girasole. One of his strongest rivals appears to be his own teammate, the young Matteo Greco.
Other serious contenders are Enrico Bettera in a Pit Lane Competizioni Audi RS 3 LMS, Massimiliano Mugelli in a MM Motorsport Honda Civic and Marco Pellegrini in a Target Competition Hyundai i30 N.
The Foreign delegation includes an Austrian quartet with Team Wimmer’s CUPRA DSG cars and a couple of Russians: Lev Tolkachev in a Honda Civic and Klim Gavrilov in an Audi.
Twenty-five teams have entered in the TCR DSG Endurance’s 2-hour opener. Rinaldo Capello, former Italian Super Touring champion and three-time winner of the Le Mans 24 hours makes his comeback to racing in an Audi. Other notable names are Luca Rangoni and Jonathan Giacon who share a Tecnodom Audi, Touring Car experts Roberto Russo (CUPRA) and Andrea Larini (Volkswagen), and Giovanni Altoè, the winner of the 2018 European and Italian TCR DSG trophies.
