For its second race meeting, the TCR Ibérico moved South to Portimão’s Autódromo Algarve. Veloso Motorsport’s Francisco Mora won both races at the wheel of his SEAT León, stretching his leadership in the championship classification. Mora has now a 12 point margin ahead of the pair Rafael Lobato-Patrick Cunha, while is ranking third with a gap of 18 points from the leader.
At the start of Race 1, Mora took the lead from pole-sitter Francisco Abreu (Volkswagen) who remained stuck to the bumper of the SEAT for most of the race. Behind the leading duo, Manuel Gião (SEAT) recovered from eighth on the grid to climb up to third, ahead of Faust Salom (SEAT).
Mora took his second victory of the season with a small margin ahead of Abreu, while Gião completed the podium.
In the second race Mora made good use of his pole position and took the lead once again, followed by Gustavo Moura (SEAT) and Rafael Lobato (Audi).
On lap 2, Lobato overtook Moura for second, just before an incident between Abreu and Nuno Batista at Turn 5 prompted the safety car.
When the race resumed, Moura dropped to sixth place, while Mora managed to open a gap on his way to claim another victory. Lobato was classified second, with João Carvalho (SEAT) in third.
The TCR Ibérico will resume on the street circuit of Vila Real, on July 8 and 9.
