After the COVID-19 forced to cancel two successive events, TCR China and TCR Asia resume at Shanghai International Circuit, where the 2021 season had begun back in May. A strong 18-car field will hit the track for rounds 3 and 4.
The 2020 TCR China champion Ma Qing Hua won both races in the opening event in his Lynk & Co 03 run by the Shell Teamwork. Ma's teammates Jason Zhang Zhi Qiang and Sunny Wong Yat Shing completed a 1-2-3 finish in Race 1, while Zhang was runner-up in the second race as well.
Following those results, Ma and Zhang are first and second in the TCR Asia standings on 55 and 40 points respectively, while Yang Xi (Huffsport TM, Audi RS 3 LMS) is placed third with a gap of 27 points from Ma.
As Teamwork have not entered in TCR China this year, the classification is led by Yang Xi and Zheng Wan Cheng (326 MMK Racing Team, Audi RS 3 LMS) who are equal on 40 points. Because Zheng has been replaced by Liu Zi Chen, Yang's first pursuer in the standings is Zhang Zheng Dong in the best of the MG 6 XPower cars who has scored 22 points, two more than the second 326 MKK driver Wu Yi Fan.
The Shanghai event will mark the first appearance of Liu Zi Chen and Mai Yi Bo (Elegant Racing Team, Volkswagen Golf GTI), while Z.Speed's Chen Ze Chun is due to drop the CUPRA he drove in the season opener for a Volkswagen Golf GTI.
The Shanghai races will be streamed live at www.tcr-series.com; Race 1, Saturday at 13:35 local time (07:35 CEST) and Race 2, Sunday at 13:25 local time (07:25 CEST).
