Motorcycling Australia and Motorsport Australia announced the postponement of the upcoming Australian All Wheels Race Fest at Phillip Island, scheduled for 18-21 February that featured the second event of the 2021 TCR Australia championship.
With confirmation of a lockdown imposed by the Victorian Government limiting travel into and out of the state, the decision to postpone the event was made to provide certainty to categories, competitors, teams, officials and spectators before the ‘bump-in’ proceedings began.
At this stage, there is no certainty the lockdown will end after the initial five-day period, and for the event to proceed many attendees will be required to travel into Victoria in the coming days week, with many unwilling to do so without an understanding if the event can proceed and on how they may be able to return home once the event concludes.
Work will begin shortly to see if an alternative date is possible for this unique event which brings together a spectacular race event of both two and four wheels.
Matt Braid, CEO, Australian Racing Group said: “The postponement of the Phillip Island event is the sensible option. It’s a shame that this has caused a delay in our second event for the year, but protecting the community, or teams and stakeholders is the priority at this time. Phillip Island is a premium motorsport venue, and we look forward to finding a new date to showcase our great racing classes at the venue.”
