Oliver Taylor succeeded in slowing down the unbeatable Daniel Lloyd in his triumphant march towards the inaugural TCR UK title.
The Pyro Motorsport driver and his Honda Civic managed to set the fastest lap in today’s Qualifying at Castle Combe, interrupting Lloyd’s streak of three consecutive pole positions, although by only three thousandths of a second.
Lloyd’s WestCoast Racing teammate Andreas Bäckman topped the timesheet in the early stages ahead of Taylor before the session was red-flagged when Darelle Wilson hit a tyre stack.
The session resumed with 19 minutes left and Jessica Bäckman posted a new provisional fastest lap, but then, as it was expected, Lloyd jumped on top with a lap of 1:07.126 that was seven tenths of a second quicker than anyone else.
It seemed like he had secured his fourth pole position out of four events, but Taylor’s last gasp effort resulted in a lap of 1:07.123 that was just a bit faster.
Lloyd had to settle for second spot, with Andreas and Jessica Bäckman ending up in third and fourth respectively.
