Just like in 2018, Salvatore Tavano won TCR Italy’s second race at Vallelunga. But this year he also secured the title with one event still to be run at Monza, on October 18th/20th.
His most serious contender, Marco Pellegrini, did not finish after being involved in an incident with Eric Scalvini in the late stages of the race.
Andrea Argenti should have been on pole on the reversed grid, but a technical issue on his Opel Astra prevented him to take part in the race, leaving the front row to the two CUPRA cars of the Scuderia del Girasole, driven by Scalvini and Tavano.
Scalvini kept the advantage at the start, but the safety-car was deployed following a contact between the Alfa Romeo Giulietta of Race 1 winner Massimiliano Mugelli and the Hyundai of Pellegrini, which left the Alfa stuck in the middle of the track.
Following the restart, Scalvini continued to lead before he was passed after a few laps by Tavano, with Enrico Bettera, Jacopo Guidetti and Matteo Greco who were fighting hard for P4 behind Pellegrini.
The race ended behind the safety-car, as two incidents occurred almost simultaneously: one between Pellegrini and Scalvini that resulted in the Hyundai crashing into the wall, and the other between Guidetti and Greco who were both able to rejoin.
And so Tavano won from Scalvini, Bettera, Guidetti, Greco and Peter Gross.
