Matthew Taskinen returned to victory in the TCR class of the Canadian Touring Car Championship. Taskinen, the winner of both races in the season opening event at Bowmanville, drove his Audi RS 3 LMS of TRC/M1GT Racing to a lights-to-flag win in Shannonville’s first race.
He took the lead at the start from Tom Kwok’s Honda, his own teammate Jean-François Hevey, Gary Kwok and Travis Hill.
Taskinen pulled away unchallenged, while the Kwok brothers managed to advance to second and third until Tom slowed and pitted, losing three laps to fix a technical issue. Gary dropped down in the order as well, but in the second part of the race he was able to recover and joined Hevey and Hill in the fight for the other podium places. On the penultimate lap, Kwok passed Hill for third and on the last lap overtook Hevey for second and so he retained the leadership in the standings, five points clear of Hill.
On Sunday morning, CTCC competitors will take part in a second Qualifying session for establishing the grid for Race 2 that will start at 13:45 local time (19:45 CET); live streaming at www.tcr-series.com.
