The LM Racing CUPRA of Nicolai Sylvest will start Race 1 of TCR Denmark at Jyllandsringen from pole position after a stunning performance in the second stage of Qualifying saw Sylvest set a best lap time over four-tenths of a second quicker than second-placed Kasper H. Jensen in a Honda Civic Type R.
In the first stage of Qualifying, the early pace-setter was Kenn Bach in another Honda, whose first competitive lap time was a 1:11.364. His time was swiftly beaten by Sylvest (1:10.436), Kristian Moe Sætheren (1:10.854) and Gustav Birch (1:11.028) and, while Sylvest would improve his best lap to a 1:10.104, it was the current championship leader Jensen who set the best lap of the session with a 1:09.225. Also beating Sylvest’s time were Jacob Mathiassen (1:09.559), Casper Elgaard (1:09.636), Bach (1:09.913) and Michael Markussen (1:09.987).
Ten drivers then went through to Q2, with Sylvest making his intentions clear at the very start of the session with a lap of 1:09.027. Mathiasson responded with a 1:09.294 followed swiftly by Jensen with a 1:09.167 to go P2 but Sylvest responded with a superb lap of 1:08.709 to secure provisional pole for Race 1. Behind Sylvest and Jensen were the Alfa Romeo of Mathiassen (1:09.294), the Peugeot 308 of Elgaard (1:09.520) and René Povlsen’s Volkswagen Golf GTI (1:09.724).
The first of three races will start at 12:05 CEST.
Race 1 is scheduled to start at 12.05 CEST with Race 2 at 14.40 and Race 3 at 15.30.
