The promoters of TCR South America and TCR Spain announced their agreement over a cooperation programme between the two series.
The first step had already been moved earlier this year, when Argentine driver Juan Ángel Rosso, a regular in TCR South America, competed in TCR Spain’s event at Navarra in June.
Under this agreement, that was finalised following the visit of TCR Spain’s president Gabriel Alonso at the Kumho TCR World Tour and TCR South America joint events in August, the 2023 TCR South America champions will be given the opportunity to compete in the 2024 TCR Spain. Equally, the winner of the 2023 TCR Spain title will be offered the possibility to take part in some events of the 2024 TCR South America season.
“The playground of TCR concept surpasses the borders of the different championships and gives us a unique opportunity of cooperation between the regions. South America and Spain are united in friendship, with several common interests and an incredible motorsport tradition. We will be working together to offer drivers, teams, manufacturers and promoters the best opportunities to compete,” explained Alonso.
Federico Punteri, President of TCR South America added: “In the effort to contribute to the growth of TCR around the world we have worked to finalise this agreement of cooperation between TCR South America and TCR Spain. This is another evidence that this concept brings our region closer to the rest of the world. This cooperation with TCR Spain is the first of many others we are thinking of for the future.”
