Gergő Báldi, twice eSports champion in the 2019 and 2020 WTCR, will race in the TCR Eastern Europe finale at Brno this weekend. The 26-year-old Hungarian will be driving a Hyundai i30 N for the 2020 champion team M1RA.
"I see the same steering wheel in front of me in the real car as in SIM racing, and it's a very reassuring feeling," said Báldi. “So far, I’ve driven the cars in two tests and one shake down, so I have room for progress. There are more experienced competitors than me in the field, so I do not set specific goals in advance. I would like to complete a good, error-free weekend.”
In the current season, Báldi competed in the Swift Cup Europe for M1RA; he missed the first round at the Hungaroring due to a coronavirus infection, but then proved to be competitive and he is currently second in the standings with six podium finishes before the season finale in Brno.
"Since there is no chance of winning the championship, we thought we would give Gergő a very challenging opportunity with a TCR car, because he is ripe for it and deserves it," said M1RA team principal Dávid Bári. “We knew he has an exceptional talent, and he proved that from the first moment he drove a real racing car. Now it’s time to take the next step.”
