TCR Asia, the longest-lived series for TCR cars, enters its fifth season this weekend, with the opening event at Sepang International Circuit.
Fifteen cars are on the provisional entry list that includes the reigning champion Luca Engstler. The young German, who has been recently crowned the winner of TCR Malaysia’s inaugural title, will be driving a Hyundai i30 N car.
The Korean manufacturer is represented by no fewer than six cars, with Théo Coicaud teaming up with Engstler, Philippines’ Daniel Miranda and China’s Gao Hua Yang driving for Eurasia Motorsport, and TCR Korea Teams’ champion Indigo Racing entering Kim Jin Soo and former TCR International Series and WTCR title contender Pepe Oriola.
Germany-based Team Oettinger runs three Volkswagen Golf GTI cars for Diego Moran, Roland Hertner and Adam Bin Khalid, the winner of the selection promoted by Sepang International Circuit to launch young Malaysian drivers.
Two Audi RS 3 LMS cars have been entered by TeamWork Motorsport from Hong Kong, one driven by the reigning TCR China champion Alex Hui and the other for David Lau whose previous experience were in the Asian Formula Renault and Clio Cup. Prince Racing will run two Honda Civic FK7 cars for Kenneth Lau and Michael Choi, and the field is completed by a pair of CUPRA cars, one for Viper Niza Racing’s local driver Douglas Khoo and the other for the reigning TCR Thailand champion Jakraphan Davee (Alphafactory Racing Team by Pulzar).
Both races will be streamed live at www.tcr-series.tv, Saturday at 15:20 local time (09:20 CET) and Sunday at 09:50 local time (03:50 CET).
