The final round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge at Sebring International Raceway ended with an intense duel between teammates Mark Wilkins and Gabby Chaves in two of the Bryan Herta Autosport-run Hyundai Veloster N cars.
Eventually, Wilkins – who was sharing the car with Harry Gottsacker in the two-hour race – crossed the finishing line only two tenths before Chaves who won the title in the TCR class together with his teammate Ryan Norman.
Wilkins and Gottsacker finished as runner ups in the championship, while Michael Lewis and Mason Filippi were third in the final standings, completing an all-Bryan Herta Autosport and Hyundai podium.
It was the perfect end of a triumphant season for the team that have won seven of the season’s ten rounds.
The first part of the race saw the KMW Motorsports Alfa Romeo Giulietta of Roy Block leading the pack, chased by the Road Shagger Racing Audi RS 3 LMS of Gavin Ernstone fighting. However, at halfway the two Hyundai cars came to the front and were able to pull away.
James Vance and Max Faulkner moved up to finish third in the Fast MD Racing Audi ahead of the Alfa Romeo that Block shared with Tim Lewis.
