SWR team owner Sean Walkinshaw will make his Touring Car debut in the squad’s Honda Civic TCR in the TCR UK’s second event at Knockhill this weekend.
The 24-year-old son of the late Scottish Touring Car legend Tom Walkishaw is fresh from a victory in the Super GT Championship at Fuji in Japan; he will stand-in for Howard Fuller, who took the Honda to a top four best in the Silverstone TCR UK season-opener.
Fuller is expected to return to action in TCR UK with SWR during the subsequent round at his home track, Brands Hatch, in early June.
In the meantime, experienced GT racer Walkinshaw is looking forward to making his competitive debut in touring cars and also racing at Knockhill for the first time, especially with his strong Scottish links. “I’m really looking forward to visiting Knockhill for the first time,” he commented, “It’s going to be a pretty big departure from what I’m used to in Super GT and endurance racing. I’ve never raced a front-wheel drive car before, so there’s a bit to learn, although I did test a couple of months ago. I’m sure we’ll be up to speed pretty quickly, it should be a lot of fun. It’s been a long time since the guys in the team last went to Knockhill. Ken Page – SWR team principal – was last there 20 years ago in the Super Touring era of the BTCC with my dad and TWR.”
