Guest driver Igor Stefanovski from Macedonia set pole position for the penultimate race of TCR Italy at Monza. A regular competitor in TCR Europe at the wheel of a Hyundai, Stefanovski races a Cupra in the TCR Italy finale and after being the fastest in both yesterday’s practices posted the second fastest lap of 1:58.800 in today’s Qualifying.
In fact, the fastest time had been clocked by Eric Scalvini in the BRC Racing Hyundai i30 N who topped the timesheet with a lap 1:58.468 that was later disallowed for a track limit infringement. Scalvini’s second best lap of 1:59.105 granted him the third position on the grid behind Salvatore Tavano of SEAT Motorsport Italia.
Tavano has moved another step closer to the Italian crown as he qualified second with a lap of 1:58.850, while his competitor in the title fight, Luigi Ferrara, was fourth in his Alfa Romeo Giulietta (1:59.205).
With a leading margin of 31.5 points in the standings and 21 points on offer in the second race, Tavano can mathematically grab the title in the first race that start at 15:15 local time this afternoon and will be streamed live at www.tcr-series.tv.
The third row of the grid will be filled by Enrico Bettera’s Audi RS3 LMS (1:59.309) and Matteo Greco’s Cupra (1:59.390) that topped the DSG Trophy.
