Wimmer Werk Motorsport’s Eric Scalvini will start from the pole position in today’s TCR Germany’s Race 1 at Hockenheim. The Italian and his CUPRA Leon Competición were clocked at 1:27.778, while none of the other competitors was able to go under the 1:28 mark. This was the third time for Scalvini to be fastest in Qualifying after the double pole position set at the Red Bull Ring where the Italian won both races.
Luca Engstler, the leader of the standings, was second fastest, followed by his Team Engstler colleague Martin Andersen and by Philipp Regensperger in the Opel Astra run by Lubner Motorsport.
Jonas Karklys was the first one to post a competitive time of 1:49.003 in his Jutaracing Hyundai i30 N, but the Lithuanian youngster was soon demoted by the 1:48.887 posted by Marcel Fugel in the Team ADAC Sachsen Honda Civic. Engstler was the next one to top the timesheet with a lap of 1:48.224 that looked good enough for granting him the pole position until Scalvini’s effort with four minutes left on the clock.
Afterwards, the only top driver who managed to improve was Andersen who moved into P3 with a lap of 1:48.408, demoting Regensperger and Marcel Fugel to fourth and fifth respectively. Nico Gruber qualified sixth in the third Hyundai car run by Team Engstler, while Karklys was classified seventh after he had his best lap disallowed for track limit infringements, a 1:48.488 that would give him the fourth position on the grid.
Title contender Dominik Fugel qualified a disappointing tenth, 1.7 seconds off the pole.
The first race will start at 13:40 CEST with live streaming at www.tcr-series.com.
