Eric Scalvini left only the crumbs to his ADAC TCR Germany competitors in the Red Bull Ring weekend. The Italian and his Wimmer Werk Motorsport CUPRA Leon Competición took all: two pole positions and two race wins, pocketing the full score of 70 points on offer. This helped him moving up into second in the standings, 19 points behind Luca Engstler and five ahead of Dominik Fugel. Fugel and Engstler finished the race in second and third respectively after some skirmishes that earned Fugel a warning.
Pole-sitter Scalvini led at the start from Fugel, Engstler, Philipp Regensperger and Marcel Fugel. As the field negotiated Turn 1, René Kircher made contact with Sandro Soubek and Robin Jahr, dropping back. During the first lap, Regesperger and Marcel Fugel clashed while fighting for P4, Nico Gruber and Martin Andersen took the opportunity to pass them both; Marcel Fugel then pitted for repairs and Regensberger dropped to seventh behind Soubek who began fighting with Gruber and Andersen.
In lap 5, Andreas Höfler collided with Jahr and crashed, which prompted the safety car into action. Racing resumed in lap 7, but immediately Regesperger’s Astra stopped on the track after running over a kerb and the safety car was deployed again.
The green flag was waved with 12 minutes on the clock; Scalvini kept on leading from Dominik Fugel, Engstler and Gruber, while both Andersen and Soubek went wide as they were fighting for P7, which allowed Patrick Sing and Jonas Karklys to pass Soubek, but the latter regained one position after pushing the Lithuanian’s car. Sing then, moved into P4, overtaking Andersen and Gruber in lap 13.
Gaps among the top three stretched during the final part of the race and Scalvini won by 1.9 seconds over Dominik Fugel, with Engstler crossed the line in third place a further 3.9 seconds behind.
The ADAC TCR Germany will resume at the Nürburgring on 6/8 August.
