Rob Huff completes Zengő Motorsport quartet for WTCR

14 May 2021

Rob Huff will return to the WTCR in 2021 for the full season, driving a brand-new CUPRA Leon Competición for Zengő Motorsport.
The 41-year-old returns to the championship where he raced from 2005 and 2019, after a year out where he won the TCR Scandinavia championship as well travelled to Macau to win his tenth Guia race.
The British driver will join the Hungarian Zengő Motorsport team, a successful operation in the touring car arena, and which has been chosen to showcase the new CUPRA Leon Competición in WTCR and was already a race-winner last year.
The team is launching a four-car assault on the series, with Huff’s team-mates already confirmed to be Mikel Azcona, Jordi Gené, and Hungarian rising star Bence Boldizs.
The move also puts Huff back together with the Spanish manufacturer which launched his touring car career. Huff first burst onto the tin-top racing scene after winning the 2003 SEAT Cupra Championship in the UK, which earned him a British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) seat with SEAT Sport in 2004 in a SEAT Toledo Cupra.
Huff also took the last ever victory for a Super 2000 TC2T specification car with SEAT in the WTCC, winning the final race at Macau in 2013 in a León.

“I’m really happy to be back in WTCR, and with the Zengő Motorsport team, a team I’ve known for a long while now. I know the new CUPRA Leon is a competitive car. It shares some of the underpinnings with the new Volkswagen I was helping to develop two years ago, and I also spent most of last year fighting against it in Sweden, so it’ll be great to be on the other side and behind the wheel of one this year instead. It’s also great to be back with CUPRA. They launched my career in the UK, and the new car is absolutely a title contender. We know it’ll be a tough season, as it’s not as though the other manufacturers aren’t bringing their A-game either. Our aim will be to do our best and hope to be there with a chance at the end of the season. The golden ticket for me at the end is a chance to build on my tally in Macau, with a car we know will be able to take us to victory and add to my ten wins at the toughest track in the world,” said Huff.
