The PWR Racing team’s Cupra cars dominated Qualifying for the two TCR Scandinavia races at Karlskoga this weekend, with Philip Morin setting the fastest time in Q2 ahead of his teammates Daniel Haglöf and Robert Dahlgren. The team’s other driver, Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinksy, was tenth quickest and so will start Race 2 from pole.
Earlier, the team had scored a 1-2-3 in the shortened second Practice session, in which Haglöf had set a new lap record for TCR cars of 1:06.535 ahead of Dahlgren and Åhlin-Kottulinsky. In the first part of Qualifying, Dahlgren then bettered that time with a 1:06.503 with Haglöf a mere one-hundredths of a second slower. Morin then beat both his colleagues in Q2 with a 1:06.314, suggesting that the trio will be extremely closely-matched in Sunday’s two races.
In fact, just over six-tenths of a second covered the top ten, with fourth-placed Johan Kristoffersson’s KMS Volkswagen Golf the best of the non-Cupra cars, ahead of the Audi RS3 LMS of Tobias Brink and Andreas Wernersson’s Lestrup Racing Volkswagen. Matthias Andersson’s Honda Civic, the two Volkswagen cars of Fredrik Ekblom and Oliver Söderström and Åhlin-Kottulinksky’s Cupra completed the top ten.
In the standings, Dahlgren increased his leading margin to 33 points ahead of Haglöf who climbed to second, one point over Wernersson and Kristoffersson.
Race 1 is scheduled for 12:50 CET on Sunday, with live streaming at www.tcr-series.com and www.tcr-series.tv.
