TCR Germany’s title contenders Harald Proczyk and Anti Buri have locked the front row of the grid for this afternoon’s Race 1 at the Lausitzring. Proczyk, the current championship leader, set pole position and so stretched his advantage in the standings to 15 points over Dominik Fugel who qualified fifth, while Buri is placed third, a further three points adrift.
The track was wet, but with a field of ten cars, there was no pressure on the drivers in Q1, as they would all advance to Q2. It took only one lap to Proczyk for topping the timesheet with the time of 2:13.775, as nobody else completed a lap in less than 2:14. Eventually René Kircher emerged as the best of the rest with a lap of 2:14.010 ahead of Nico Gruber’s 2:14.043 and Buri’s 2:14.157, while Dominik Fugel set the sixth fastest lap of 2:14.399 behind Albert Legutko’s 2:14.287.
Competition was livelier in Q2, with Gruber setting a provisional fastest lap of 2:13.554 that was soon beaten by Proczyk’s 2:12.396. which was good enough for securing pole position. Jan Seyffert provisionally moved into P2 with a lap of 2:13.134, but Buri clocked a 2:13.101 and demoted Seyffert to third. Gruber improved his time to 2:13.355, but remained fourth, while Dominik Fugel couldn’t qualify better than fifth with a lap of 2:13.837. His brother Marcel ranked sixth, while Hyundai guest driver Laura Kreihamer was eighth fastest and so won the pole position for Sunday’s Race 2.
Race 1 will be streamed live today at www.tcr-series.com, at 13:00, local time (CET).
