After being second fastest in the first Free Practice, Denis Dupont clocked the fastest lap in the second session at the wheel of his Comtoyou Racing SEAT. The young Belgian stopped the clock at 1:28.510, only 36 thousandths of a second faster than his fellow-SEAT driver Pepe Oriola (1:28.546).
It was an incredibly close session, with 16 drivers all covered by less than a second.
Alain Menu was third fastest in his Hyundai i30 N (1:28.600) ahead of Aurélien Comte in the fastest Opel Astra (1:28.745) and Jean-Karl Vernay’s Volkswagen Golf GTI (1:28.779).
Frédéric Vervisch in sixth position was the best of the Audi drivers (1:28.800), followed by Gianni Morbidelli (1:28.859), Stefano Comini (1:28.948), the best Honda car of Josh Files (1:28.948) and Benjamin Leuchter (1:28.985). Dušan Borković ranked 11th with his Alfa Romeo Giulietta (1:29.022), meaning that all the seven car brands were within the same half-a-second.
Comte had to pit with a flat front tyre in the early stages, while Morbidelli lost most of the session while the WestCoast crew was replacing a drive shaft.
