It was birthday celebration time in the WestCoast Racing box Saturday afternoon after qualifying, as Igor Skuz reached the age of 39. The TCR fraternity gathered to share the birthday cake, but the best present Igor got came from himself: pole position for Race 2 this afternoon.
The achievement proves the constant progress of a driver that has now found his home at WestCar Racing, after having started the season at the wheel of the Opel Astra OPC and having also driven a SEAT León.
“I have the impression that my season is really starting now”, reckons the only driver who has raced with three different car brands in the TCR so far, “I now feel perfectly comfortable with the Civic car, which is very nice to drive, and enjoy very much working with a highly-professional team as WestCoast Racing. So far, we have always had some small issue during race but that was part of the adjustment process. I feel we are now ready for first win, which is my clear objective.”
Igor is planning to finish the season with WestCoast Racing, although he won’t be in Sochi for reasons beyond his will, and is determined to continue in the TCR: “I think the new series had a very positive start and I am impressed with the excellent work everybody is doing. The very narrow gaps show that it has been possible to achieve a good balance of performance, and the level is very high. I see myself in the TCR for a while!”
